WHO AM I?
37 Years of Experience and Proven Results
In 1987, I embarked on an exciting journey as a private flute teacher, and I haven’t looked back since! I’ve had the joy of working clients of all ages, guiding them to discover the magic of music through their flutes with patience and encouragement. With a passion for diverse musical styles, I specialize in the captivating world of low flutes, including alto, bass, contr'alto, and contrabass flutes. I’m thrilled to use the techniques I’ve mastered on these instruments to enhance sound, articulation, note accuracy, and tuning.
I do the majority of my teaching on the C-flute, which is the common flute you see in bands and orchestras.

ABOUT ME
As a flute educator for 34 years, I have taught ages 8 to 65 in many different styles and at many levels. I personalize the lessons by listening to the student and ask questions about what their needs are. I like getting to know my students through music and sharing my own experience and music with them. I work hard to find the right thing and take the student's studies to heart.
LESSONS I PROVIDE
Making Learning More Enjoyable
BEGINNER FUNDAMENTALS
I do teach the absolute beginner student, encouraging them through the early period of learning how to get the air into the flute, how to hold and balance it correctly and correct posture for getting the most out of your sound. We will study any music you would like to and play duets together. Contact me for if you have questions and to get started today!
INTERMEDIATE TECHNIQUE
As a flute coach at Westview High School(2002-2007), Poway USD, I learned how to help young flutists with their scale, band music and solo/ensemble preparation with various flute methods, pieces and ensembles. In private lessons, we have more time to focus on the individual with this work. I love to help the student to the next level.
ADVANCED AND ADULT STUDENTS
As an experienced teacher and low flutes specialist, I have been able to provide lessons to amateur adult flutists who would like to gain back what they might have had in childhood and learn to adapt to the challenges of aging. I also teach alto, bass, contr'alto and contrabass flute for those who have those instruments. With flexibility in scheduling and a personalized approach, I help keep their love of music going as the years pass.
“I’VE LEARNED A GREAT DEAL FROM STUDYING WITH MARION AT LEAST TEN YEARS NOW. SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO HELP ME WITH SPECIFIC PROBLEMS ON BOTH MY C FLUTE AND ALTO FLUTE. SHE PLAYS ALL STYLES BESIDES CLASSICAL: JAZZ, POP, ROCK (SHE HAD A JETHRO TULL TRIBUTE BAND) AND ESPECIALLY EXCELS AT CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL MUSIC ON MANY LOWER FLUTES. SHE CAN PLAY PICCOLO IF SHE HAS TO BUT PREFERS C AND LOWER FLUTES. SHE IS AN EXPERT OF LOW FLUTES. SHE IS AN EXPERIENCED ADJUDICATOR AND KNOWS FLUTISTS LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, ALWAYS PARTICIPATING IN NFA AND THE BRITISH EQUIVALENT. SHE IS FLEXIBLE. SHE’S PLAYED WITH ME AT RECITALS EVEN. SHE HAS A VAST LIBRARY OF PRINTED MUSIC AND ALMOST ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW TO SHOW ME. MOST OF ALL SHE BELIEVES THAT FLUTE PLAYING SHOULD BE FUN. SHE’S CURRENT WITH NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND HASN’T BEEN STRICT WITH ME WHICH I APPRECIATE. I THINK HER FEE IS REASONABLE CONSIDERING HER KNOWLEDGE AND LEVEL OF PLAYING. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER. ”
